Social Media Statistics Indonesia 2026: Users, Platforms, and Reach (Updated Quarterly)

The social media numbers for Indonesia we actually trust, with source, date, and denominator next to each: 180M identities, platform audiences from August 2026, ad reach by platform, and the figures we deliberately left out.

Indonesia has around 180 million social media identities, roughly 63% of its population, growing 26% in a year. Facebook holds the largest reported audience, TikTok the largest advertising reach, and WhatsApp the most visits. Which one is "biggest" depends entirely on which of those you are measuring.

This page collects the social media numbers for Indonesia that we actually trust, with the source, the date, and the denominator next to each one. It is updated quarterly. If a figure you have seen elsewhere is missing, it is usually because we could not trace it to a primary source, and there is a section on those at the end.

The headline numbers

social media user identities in Indonesia in October 2025, equal to 62.9% of the total population. An identity is an account, not a person, so this overstates unique users by an unknown margin. Source: DataReportal, Digital 2026: Indonesia (published November 2025) (retrieved September 2026)
+26%
year-on-year growth in social media user identities, an increase of 37 million between late 2024 and the end of 2025. Growth in identities can reflect new accounts held by existing users as well as new users. Source: DataReportal, Digital 2026: Indonesia (retrieved September 2026)
230M

Social identities exceeding 180 million against 230 million internet users is what makes the identities-versus-people distinction matter. Platform audiences, August 2026

These come from each platform's own marketing API, as compiled by NapoleonCat, and are dated August 2026. They are the most current platform-level figures available, with one caveat: marketing-API audiences are estimates the platforms publish for advertisers, and they move month to month.

209.2M
Facebook accounts in Indonesia in August 2026, or 72.9% of the population. 51.6% men, 48.4% women; the largest age group is 25 to 34 at 79.3 million. This is the largest reported audience of any platform in the country. Source: NapoleonCat, Social Media Users in Indonesia, August 2026 (retrieved September 2026)
123.8M
Instagram accounts in August 2026, or 43.1% of the population, down from 124.9 million (43.5%) in July 2026. Women are 54.7%; 25 to 34 is the largest group at 48.4 million. A one-month dip of about 1.1 million is within the normal movement of these estimates and should not be read as a trend on its own. 134.3M
Messenger accounts in August 2026, or 46.8% of the population, skewing male at 56.7%. Messenger is rarely in Indonesian media plans, which is exactly why its audience is worth knowing about. Source: NapoleonCat, August 2026 (retrieved September 2026)
42.9M
LinkedIn accounts in August 2026, or 14.9% of the population, with 25 to 34 the largest group at 23 million. For a B2B brand in Indonesia this is the working size of the addressable professional audience. Source: NapoleonCat, August 2026 (retrieved September 2026)

Advertising reach by platform

Advertising reach is the number of people a platform says it can show ads to. It is a different measurement from the audience figures above, taken at a different date, and the two should never be averaged. The gap between Facebook's 121 million reach here and its 209 million audience above is the clearest example.

151M
YouTube advertising reach, the second largest in the country by this measure. YouTube is frequently left out of social media planning in Indonesia despite outranking Facebook and Instagram on reach. Source: DataReportal, Digital 2026: Indonesia (retrieved September 2026)

"Not reported" means the source does not publish that platform on that measure, not that the number is zero. Similarweb ranks the most visited social network websites; in-app use is not counted, which is why TikTok sits fourth.

Behaviour: search, discovery, and AI

Numbers we did not include

  • Daily time spent on social media. The DataReportal summary page for Indonesia does not state it, and the widely repeated "3 hours a day" figures we found were undated or unsourced.
  • TikTok and YouTube audience counts for August 2026. NapoleonCat does not publish them, and the platforms do not report country-level active users.
  • A single "most used platform" percentage ranking. The survey-based ranking behind claims like "9 in 10 use WhatsApp" lives in a report deck rather than on a citable page, so we have not reproduced the percentages here.
  • Anything with "billion" in it. Global totals get reported as if they were Indonesian. They are not.

How to use these numbers

Keep the denominator, the date, and the method attached to every figure you quote. Use audience figures to size a platform, reach figures to plan paid, and traffic rank to understand daily habit; do not use any of them to do the others' job. For what these shifts mean in practice, the 2026 trends analysis covers the moves worth making this quarter, and the AI and digital marketing statistics page holds the search-side numbers. Turning a platform mix into a working plan is what Epilog's social media service in Jakarta does, scoped to your brief.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many social media users are there in Indonesia in 2026?

180 million social media user identities as of October 2025, or 62.9% of the population, up 37 million (26%) in a year (DataReportal, Digital 2026: Indonesia). Identities are not people: one person can hold several accounts, so treat this as an upper bound on reach, not a headcount.

Which platform has the most users in Indonesia?

By platform-reported audience in August 2026, Facebook is largest at 209 million, or 72.9% of the population (NapoleonCat). By advertising reach, TikTok is largest at about 180 million adults (DataReportal, late 2025). By web traffic, WhatsApp ranks first (Similarweb, August 2026). Three sources, three measurements, three different leaders.

How many Instagram users does Indonesia have?

123.8 million accounts reachable through Instagram's marketing API in August 2026, or 43.1% of the population, down from 124.9 million in July. Women are 54.7% of the audience and 25 to 34 is the largest age group at 48.4 million (NapoleonCat).

Is Indonesia really TikTok's biggest market?

By advertising reach, yes: roughly 180 million people aged 18 and over, the largest TikTok ad audience of any country (DataReportal, Digital 2026: Indonesia). That is a reach estimate published by the platform, not a count of daily active users, which TikTok does not publish by country.
